New Orleans Pelicans injury rumors 2016: Anthony Davis may have suffered concussion in loss to Rockets

New Orleans Pelicans star forward Anthony Davis might have a concussion after getting elbowed by teammate point guard Tyreke Evans in Monday's 112–111 loss to the Houston Rockets.

Davis was going for a rebound in the second quarter but Evans was also trying to grab the ball. Evans then accidentally hit Davis in the left ear area with his right elbow.

Following the collision, Davis went down and New Orleans' defense collapsed, leading to an easy basket for Rockets forward Josh Smith.

Davis stayed down for a few moments before being assisted to the locker room, as he never returned to the game.

The 22-year-old forward finished the game playing only 19 minutes, listing nine points, six rebounds, one assist, and two steals.

As of the moment, there is no update regarding Davis' condition, with Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry saying after the game, according to ESPN, "Concussion-like symptoms, so I'm sure he'll just go through the protocol, and we'll find out later exactly what the situation is."

New Orleans' next game is against the Sacramento Kings this Thursday, the fifth of a seven-game home stand.

Because of the injury, it is still uncertain if Davis, the Pelicans' leader in scoring, rebounding, steals, and blocks, will play versus the Kings or how many games he will miss.

According to ESPN's report, Davis already sat out five games this season, including two this month.

The report added that the Pelicans have not won a game that the former first-round pick missed.

Davis' injury is a setback for the Pelicans who are playing much better as of late and before the loss to Houston were on a three-game winning streak.

The Pelicans spent much of the season on the second to the last spot in the Western Conference standings but are currently 12th with a 16–28 record.
