New England Patriots NFL trade & roster news 2018: Will team sign Michael Bennett of Seahawks? Tom Brady to stay on as quarterback

The New England Patriots have a bit of a problem with the interior of their defensive line. They have some talent in Malcom Brown and Lawrence Guy, but having good athletes to fill the pass rushing talent would not hurt the team's overall strength. Their early draft picks might well be used to take defensive tacklers such as Taven Bryan and Hercules Mata'afa.

Of course, they could also turn to free agents to fill up the interior defensive position. One possible choice is to sign Muhammad Wilkerson from the New York Jets, who is an experienced defensive tackle that could serve the team well. However, another more likely choice is to pick Michael Bennett of the Seattle Seahawks, because there are rumors that the Seahawks are trading him out to the highest bidder.

Several teams already expressed interest in acquiring the Seahawks athlete, but the Patriots are not one of them. Granted, that could still change as there is still plenty of time until March 18, after which Bennett is to receive his $3 million roster bonus from his current team.

Meanwhile, the quarterback position of the Patriots seems to be rock-solid at the moment. They still have Tom Brady, and the athlete is still at the top of his game, evidenced by his recent Most Valuable Player title, which was awarded to him just last year.

There were only two instances when the Patriots kept three quarterbacks on their roster since 2009. The first was in 2011 when they had Ryan Mallett, and the other was in 2016 with Jacoby Brissett.

For the coming season, it seems that the Patriots will stick to two quarterbacks on their roster. Brady has extended his contract until 2019, and while the athlete is now in his 40s, staying in the team bodes very well for the Patriots.
