Fans remain anxious to know what Gibbs' fate is after he was left to die in the finale of "NCIS" season 12. But Brian Dietzen, who plays Jimmy Palmer in the series, assures viewers that whether the agent will bite the dust or not, he will get everything he needs to get out alive.

"The premiere picks up right at that moment, and [guest star] Jon Cryer is coming in to do his darnedest to save Gibbs' life," the actor told TV Line.

He did not detail if the efforts of Cryer's character Dr. Cyril Taft will actually turn things around, and it looks like fans won't know until the season 13 premieres.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the "Two and a Half Men" star described his character, saying, "He's kind of the Jeff Goldblum of naval surgeons. Bit of a wiseass. Way too comfortable making jokes in the operating room."

The actor initially said that his character is a good guy. However, anything can happen in the show.

"I think he is a good guy. But I'm also one of those people who believe that the right set of circumstances can turn a good guy bad," Cryer said.

Dietzen also shared what his character will be up to in the new season and reiterated how important Jimmy is in the overall dynamics of the show.

"Jimmy Palmer is some of the glue that keeps the characters together — meaning he's the confidant, he's the friend," Dietzen said. "But by the end of the year, his friendships versus his professional obligations are really going to be tested, specifically with DiNozzo. That friendship will be super-tested."

"NCIS" season 13 will premiere Sept. 22 with an episode very aptly titled "Stop the Bleeding."
