NBA trade rumors 2016: Los Angeles Clippers pursuing Sacramento Kings' Rudy Gay

The Los Angeles Clippers to continue prowling for big name players and the latest one is Rudy Gay of the Sacramento Kings.

Gay has been in the rumor mill lately and the Clippers seem to be interested. But the question is who do they deal in exchange to make the trade happen?

Looking at the Clippers lineup, it won't be surprising if the player Doc Rivers and company have in mind is Lance Stephenson. The temperamental player has not proven to be a good acquisition from the offseason and it is no secret that the Clippers would want to move him for someone better.

The problem is that the Kings are unlikely interested in Stephenson. Instead, SB Nation hints that the likely target is J.J. Reddick.

Unfortunately Reddick is one player that the Clippers are unlikely to give up. He is a good defender and outside shooter that the Clippers are unlikely to deal out.

Gay, on the other hand, has not exactly had an impressive season. Considering he is set to make $12 million this year and $27.5 million for the next two seasons, the Kings may be looking to move that sum in exchange for someone they could use.

Despite the price to pay for retaining Gay, the Kings are not that desperate to deal the 29-year-old small forward. With a deal involving the Clippers likely dead, the Kings plan to move on, although they are still leaving the door open for other suitors.

Seeing the offensive repertoire and what Gay can bring to any team, expect more teams to come knocking and inquiring about the 6-foot-8-inch player.

The National Basketball Association (NBA) trade deadline is still about two weeks away and anything can happen. If nothing materializes, the Kings could save Gay for now and deal with offers again by the end of the current season.
