NBA trade rumors 2016: LA Clippers, Cavs eyeing Magic's Channing Frye?

Orlando Magic veteran forward Channing Frye is coveted by contending teams before the trade deadline, being pursued by the Los Angeles Clippers and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Through the years, Frye has proven that he is an efficient player who can shoot and score, with him also having playoff experience during his stints with the Portland Trail Blazers and Phoenix Suns.

Now two teams that are expected to head to the postseason, the Clippers and Cavs, are reportedly having plans of adding him.

In a tweet Wednesday by Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, he stated that the Clippers are close to a deal with the Magic for Frye, with forward Lance Stephenson involved in the possible switch.

Wojnarowski added in another tweet that if Frye joins Lob City and Stephenson heads to Orlando, the latter will not play a game since he is set to be waived.

Despite the Clippers seemingly close to having Frye, Marc Stein of ESPN reported that the Cavaliers also had an offer to the Magic.

Stein stated that sources said Cleveland placed long time center Anderson Verajao on the table in exchange for Frye.

This 2015–16 National Basketball Association (NBA) season, Frye played in 44 games (29 starts) so far, averaging 5.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, and one assist in 17.1 minutes of action per outing.

Frye's numbers may not suggest his value but he can easily be an impact player coming off the bench.

The 32-year-old's shooting is a great weapon in any team's arsenal, especially for a playoff contender, now that the landscape of the NBA has changed since the small ball game emerged.

If Frye heads to the Clippers, he will have significant playing minutes with forward Blake Griffin out due to injury.

However, if he finds himself playing for Cleveland, Frye might be the answer to the team's lack of offensive production from the bench.
