The Cleveland Cavaliers could be cleaning up some of the small things on their roster soon, especially with Iman Shumpert back in harness and Kyrie Irving likely to follow soon.
Even as LeBron James continues to be hard on his teammates for their lack of effort, it may be one of the lesser known players who could be left out soon. And one of them is Joe Harris, someone who hasn't exactly been given the proper minutes despite being known as a good knockdown shooter.
Harris has played only five games for the Cavs but has spent more time in the National Basketball Association (NBA) D-League and doing better at that. He is averaging 17.6 points in eight games there while shooting 41% from the floor, as reported by Fansided.
The Cavs are looking for a big man to add to their rotation, something that may be achieved if there are worthy big men available in the free agent market.
The likely candidate could be players who may subsequently be bought out, someone like perhaps Kendrick Perkins who could add needed muscle up front.
But unloading Harris isn't expected to figure much at this point. The best the Cavs may get is a future conditional second round pick. Looking at the teams right now, the only team that could possibly consider Harris would be the Philadelphia 76ers who have been known to take chances on players left out by other ball clubs.
Harris makes less than $1 million on the Cavs payroll which makes him largely a factor as far as trimming down the eventual luxury taxes that Dan Gilbert and company will have to deal with soon is concerned.
If the Cavs part ways with Harris, team owner Gilbert may end up paying an estimated $1.5 million in the event they go for a player who would be available after either being bought out or waived. Hence, the lesser of two evils is to try and get a trade partner, although such looms to be a hard thing to accomplish at this point.
