Tyronn Lue has just coached three games full time and yet, he is getting an honor that is normally reserved to coaches who have at least called the shots for half a National Basketball Association (NBA) season.
Lue was recently named to coach the Eastern All-Star selection this February, something that came about because of the Cleveland Cavaliers Eastern Conference-leading record.
His appointment has, of course, drawn criticism, mainly because it was supposed to be David Blatt getting the credit for the good start and not Lue.
Lue replaced David Blatt recently as head coach of the Cavs. The firing was reportedly general manager David Griffin's call with claims that the players were no longer responding and respecting Blatt at the helm anymore.
But no thanks to an NBA ruling, Lue was given the privilege, although it wasn't exactly something he wanted. There were some who felt that Toronto Raptors head coach Dwane Casey should have been picked instead, with the Raptors being the next best team to the Cavs.
For Lue's part, a noble gesture would have been to decline the appointment, considering he hasn't really proven anything yet. He has just coached in three games, two of which were wins.
Despite some saying that his appointment as head coach was not truly deserved, there were some players like Tristan Thompson who came to the defense of Lue.
Thompson, who hails from Canada, rants that the team has more wins and that Lue was with the team from day one, according to Cleveland.com.
The heat on this matter is expected to continue all the way until the All-Star game, which will take place on Feb. 14. Lue may be in for some pressure to prove his worth and come out with a win against the Western All-Stars.
The West All-Stars will be coached by San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, making the task doubly harder for Lue. If the East loses, Lue is likely to gain more criticism moving forward.
