NBA 2015 free agency rumors: Dwight Howard to test free agency in 2016?

It wasn't too long ago when Dwight Howard had opted to test NBA free agency and eventually landed in Houston.

That was in 2013 when Howard elected to forego a large sum of money with the Los Angeles Lakers to star with the Houston Rockets. At that time, it was a fact that Howard never got along with Kobe Bryant and it seemed that he wasn't fine with the idea of playing second fiddle.

At Houston, it seems that things haven't changed. The obvious superstar in the team has been James Harden and Howard has hardly made an impact on a consistent basis. So with his performance in consideration, could there be teams interested in pitching money for the big man?

Howard may opt out in 2016 and it is believed that the 6-foot-11-inch big man will be doing the same thing he did in 2013. The only difference is that at that time, there were a lot of teams interested in luring Howard away from the Lakers. With all the focus on Kevin Durant, news about Howard's potential availability has hardly made any noise.

It is believed that Howard will likely stay in Houston, although there are some who believe that the Rockets will eventually offer him a short term deal. But seeing that Howard is reaching his 30s, it would not be surprising if Howard eventually looks for a long-term deal.

Will Houston be willing to give that to him? It seems to be a 50–50 scenario but is a possibility.

With the 2015–16 NBA season opening soon, a lot will hinge on his health and performance. Howard has been beset by injuries and such has been the reason why he has been on and off the hardwood.

Should he make it through the coming season injury-free, his stock would surely go up. But aside from the Rockets, who could possibly be interested in him? Surely, he will be another player to watch in 2016 NBA Free Agency period.
