Before sounding off, it would be best to take Kevin Durant's previous stance on his future in the NBA — unless it comes from him or two of his trusted friends (Charlie Bell or Richie Kleiman), all free agency rumors are not to be believed.
As far as his part is concerned that will be the case. But how true could it be that Carmelo Anthony wants Durant in New York next year?
Durant is expected to be a hotly pursued player next year, although he prefers not to think of it for now. There will be a lot of teams linked to him and for now, three are already on the list — Washington Wizards, Miami Heat and now, New York Knicks.
It will be interesting to know how the Knicks can pull it off seeing that this coming year doesn't hold a fruitful one for Phil Jackson and his boys. It could be true that the Knicks want Durant, but is the feeling mutual?
And as we ponder over that, is he the only one?
There is word that Kobe Bryant could be headed to Gotham as well and reunite with Jackson. Three big time scorers in one team does sound deadly but at the same time, dangerous. Remember that there is only one ball and the three — Anthony, Durant, and Bryant — have been known to want the ball in their hands a lot.
The idea is nice but also controversial. The Knicks want to start winning but despite these rumors, it may not necessarily translate to such. It could blow up in their faces since Anthony has been known to be trigger-happy.
Then there is the question of salary as well. Can the Knicks afford all three at the same time? Bryant could agree to a pay cut seeing that he may be reaching the end of his career but the scenario doesn't hold true for Durant. Why would he jump ship and move to a team that is sorely lacking in players in key positions?
The thought of seeing all three is neat, but as far as winning in the NBA is concerned, it doesn't necessarily connect.
