Moto M release date, specs news: new live images leaked; rear-mounted fingerprint scanner among specs?

A couple of images were posted online again for the alleged Moto M. The latest image shows a round shaped fingerprint scanner at the back, a first for the brand.

The still unannounced phone has a camera module on top of the scanner that also includes an LED flash. The brand logo can be seen at the bottom of the curved full metal body construction, and it is sporting a silver like color. Previous models always have its sensor incorporated at the home button, so this is the first time that the company placed it at the back of the device, according to Playful Droid.

Another image, which shows the screen, displays key details about the upcoming device. It contains a model number XT1662, runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and exhibits that it has the September security patch installed. It remains unknown if the model will be upgradeable to Android 7.0 Nougat.

GSM Arena added that the Moto M is expected to feature a 5.5-inch 1080p touchscreen, and it will be powered by a MediaTek MT6755 Helio P10 that contains an octa-core 1.9 GHz Cortex-A53 cores. It is could then be paired with 3 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. A non-removable 3,000 mAh battery is also rumored to come along. The cameras are expected to be 16 MP at the back and either a 5 or an 8 MP shooter for the front.

Connections are expected to include GSM, HSPA, and LTE for the cellular, while a dual-band WiFi is set for its LAN. A microUSB 2.0 will provide the means to charge the device as well as a physical connection.

Previously, an image of a gold variant also made its way online. It showed the device sporting a 4 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage. It could be the same device that passed through the TENNA certification.

There are also rumors that the device could be launched in the Asian region alone and that it will be marketed by Lenovo and not by Motorola.

The tech community is waiting for an announcement from either Lenovo or Motorola about the alleged Moto M.
