Moto Droid Turbo 2 release date and specs news: Launch with Droid Maxx 2

Now that Motorola has released its 2015 versions of the Moto X and the Moto G, it might be high time for a new Moto Droid Turbo to come out. According to tech leakster @evleaks, the new version of the smartphone will be called Moto Droid Turbo 2.

The tipster also stated that the device will be launched alongside another Verizon-exclusive Droid handset in the form of the Moto Droid Maxx 2, the follow-up to the original Droid Maxx released back in 2013. Unfortunately, there's no word as to when this pair of smartphones will be out and about.

That said, there are also no details that will shed light on their specs. Media outlets, however, expect the Moto Droid Turbo 2 will have more powerful specs than the Droid Maxx 2, with the former to be a high-end offering and the latter a mid-range handset.

A couple of days ago, photos of what was called a Moto Droid 2015 device were shared by Hello Motto HK. Two photos hinted at a wireless charging feature while the other one showcased a textured back panel, which Motorola always tend to use on their Droid devices.

Softpedia adds that the software the Motorola duo will run will depend on the date of their launch. The site says that Google will be done with the Android M around October so if the device are scheduled for release after that, they could be the first handsets from the Lenovo-owned company to feature the newest Android OS.

However, if the Moto Droid Turbo 2 and the Droid Maxx 2 are closer to being released than the tech world expects, they will likely have Android 5.1.1. Lollipop on board. The first devices expected to wear Android M before any others are the two variants of the rumored Nexus 5 2015 from LG and Huawei.
