Moto Droid Turbo 2 release date, specs: Leaked image indicates device headed to Verizon

A new leaked image from Android Central, which shows Costco's alleged upcoming smartphone releases, has caught the attention of media outlets. This is because among the devices the retail giant plans to put on offer this fall is the Moto Droid Turbo 2, which Motorola has yet to make official.

There are rumors that the Moto Droid Turbo 2 will be the name the newly launched Moto X Play will go by when it reaches the United States. With Droid Turbo handsets exclusive to Verizon, however, it looks like the customers of the carrier will be the only ones who will be able to get their hands on the device.

Rumor mills already have details on the forthcoming Moto Droid Turbo 2's specs. According to reports, the new handset from the Lenovo-owned company will be fitted out with an octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor and Adreno 430 chip. It will reportedly offer 4 GB of RAM as well as 32 GB or 64 GB of built-in storage. The original Moto Droid Turbo did not get a microSD slot so it looks like the memory space for the Moto Droid Turbo 2 will not be expandable either.

Leaked images from Hello Moto UK show that the new Droid Turbo will come with wireless charging technology. Lastly, there are also reports that the device will still run Android Lollipop and not Android M, which is rumored to be unveiled in October.

In the image from Android Central, the handset is listed under Verizon along with other unannounced devices such as the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. This pair of phablets from Samsung are speculated to be unveiled during Samsung's Unpacked event on Aug. 13.

There's no word when the Moto Droid Turbo 2 will be released but it is speculated that Motorola will launch it this fall with the rumored Moto Droid Maxx 2.
