'Mortal Kombat X' DLC character rumors: Classic fighters to return?

Mortal Kombat X DLC - Kombat Pack 2 announcement NetherRealms Studios

The success of the launch of "Mortal Kombat X," the latest fighting game from the long-running "Mortal Kombat" franchise, paved the way for developer NetherRealm Studios to expand the title with DLC packs. The DLC came with at least four new characters and a host of other items such as character skins and bonus freebies.

Meanwhile, the developer is planning to add again to the already-impressive roster of "Mortal Kombat X" fighters next year. However, the developers are keeping the names of the upcoming characters secret. Even Ed Boon, head of NetherRealm Studios, who is known to provide juicy details ahead of announcements, is updating fans only with some teaser images but never with confirmed names.

Because of the scarcity of information, some fans have hinted that NetherRealm may go for a story-focused Kombat Pack 2 featuring some "Mortal Kombat" veterans like Rain, Baraka, and Sindel because these characters are already present in "Mortal Kombat X," although they are currently non-playable characters.

However, with the inclusion of Jason Vorhees from "Friday the 13th" as one of the add-on characters for the first Kombat Pack, some fans wants to see other non-Kombatants making it to the next expansion packs. Reportedly, NetherRealm Studios has already received the go-ahead from Todd McFarlane to use Spawn as one of the characters for the series. Meanwhile, some observers like FightingGameMania have not forgotten about Ed Boon's idea of including Jurassic Park characters or the Terminator on the list of possible candidates for the next Kombat Pack.

"Mortal Kombat X" is currently available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It also has mobile versions for both the iOS and Android systems. Meanwhile, versions for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, supposed to be developed by High Voltage Software, have been officially cancelled.
