'Mortal Kombat X' DLC exclusive characters free to try without purchase

The upcoming "Mortal Kombat X" already has plenty of characters on its roster, and there will be additional, interesting characters to be added for those who would purchase the DLC packs. The developer is dangling a carrot, too, for those who are of two minds about buying the expansions — they can try using the exclusive characters for free.

In a Twitter post, the game's developer NetherRealms, through Creative Director Ed Boon, said that there would be a cool new feature in the game that would let players test the exclusive characters even without buying the DLC packs. This means that gamers can play as DLC-only characters like Jason Vorhees, Predator, Tanya, and Tremor.

The new game mode is called the Challenge Towers, where there is a special mode that changes the gameplay as gamers fight with the computer AI, bringing fresh new challenges every time. There are three towers that rotate regularly, and in the game's Premiere Tower, which would cycle between a day and a week before updating, the playable characters would include DLC-only Kombat fighters.

Boon added in an interview, "So for instance, if [DLC character Jason Voorhees] comes along, you're going to have a Jason tower that you play as Jason. And you can even use that tower if you didn't purchase Jason. So it's really cool, it gives the players a taste of what the character [is] and what it's like to play them."

Aside from cycling exclusive playable characters, the Towers will also be the location where players can earn different rewards when they complete challenges. For example, the second Premiere Tower is designated as Mortal Kombat 1 Tower, and when players complete challenges there, they will be rewarded with different items that would give out numerous bonuses, such as extra 100 Koins for fatality, additional 100 XP for matches, and 75 FXP per match win.
