Microsoft Surface Pro Mini release date not happening? Latest rumors

Microsoft is rumored to release a bunch of new products in October, but speculations have it that the purported Surface Pro Mini isn't one of those. Instead, users are reportedly getting what could be the Xbox One Mini.

Although no firm information is available about its specs, this console is said to be three times smaller than the standard Xbox One, and also quieter. It is also being said that the device will be a handheld, designed to square off against the PlayStation Portable.

There are no other concrete details about the so-called Xbox One Mini, although there are reports that debunk the rumor. Metro, for one, says that it is too early for such hardware to come out, as Xbox One is deemed too young (it turns two this November) to get a follow-up.

The same site, however, suggests that the device could be Microsoft's effort to outstrip Sony, which sold twice the amount of its console flagship the Redmond software giant managed to sell. Meanwhile, the source of the rumor, a China-based website called WP Dang, is currently down.

On the other hand, Microsoft's Surface Pro Mini was quite a regular visitor in the rumor mills in the past few weeks. Before it was allegedly dropped by Microsoft, it was speculated to get a Quad HD display, but there is no information on the screen's actual size. It should have been smaller than 12 inches though, as this is the size the Surface Pro 4 is going by, apparently. It was also touted to make use of either an Intel Atom processor with 64-bit support or a Core M chipset.

Unfortunately, those who have been hoping to see a smaller version of the Microsoft Surface Pro tablet might be disappointed come October during Microsoft's rumored bonanza. However, the long-rumored Surface Pro 4, which is said to be thinner, sleeker and faster than its predecessor, should already be a treat.

During the event, it is expected that Microsoft will lift the veil off the Lumia 940 and 940 XL, as well as the Microsoft Band 2, along with the abovementioned products.
