The Microsoft Surface Pro 5 has been in the rumor mill for a time now, and there is still no proof that the device even exists. However, this does not stop fans from speculating that the fifth generation of the hybrid laptop will be arriving next year and will be equipped with the Kaby Lake processor.
PC Advisor mentioned that the Surface Pro 5 will not be able to make it this year because the tech giant is waiting for the seventh-generation Intel Core. The Kaby Lake processor will be able to provide a faster processing speed and offers great display capability such as 4K resolution and 3D images. It will also feature USB Type C 3.1 and Thunderbolt ports that will be natively supported by the upcoming chip.
The report also suggested that there is a possibility that another Surface product may arrive this year. This was based on a picture that was taken inside the Microsoft building 88. A placeholder shows three devices with "2017" on them, while one shows "2016." However, no one can pinpoint the particular product. iTech Post added that the delay could also be attributed to a major design overhaul of the device.
Previously, another speculated release date may have something to do with its operating system. Microsoft is said to be aiming to include Windows 10 Redstone 2 in its device, which is expected to be released in summer of next year.
Meanwhile, with regards to specifications, aside from having a faster processor compared to the Skylake, it is rumored to contain 6GB of RAM, which could go up to 16GB. Surface Pen integration is also expected which is said to be rechargeable. The current Surface Pen still uses AAAA batteries in order to work. Since it is said to contain a Kaby Lake processor, 2K and 4K screen resolution will also be available on the next model.
