The tech world might at last see the first Windows 10 phones as early as next month. Word on the street is that the long-rumored Microsoft flagships, the Lumia 950 and 950 XL, will officially be unveiled on Oct. 10. This is according to tech tipster Evan Blass aka @evleaks.

In an article for WM Power User, he points out that the date falls on 10/10, making it a perfect day to launch the first Windows 10 handsets. It is unclear, however, if this is the same day the smartphones will be made available in the market.

Previous speculations say that the Microsoft Lumia 950 and 950 XL will have metal for chassis to set them apart from the devices released before them. However, the tipster claims that they will still be of polycarbonate (plastic) making, the same as every Lumia smartphones released by the Redmond-based tech firm.

When it comes to specs, the Lumia 950 is expected to come with a 5.2-inch Quad HD display. Under its hood will be a six-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor. The Lumia 950 XL will be larger and more powerful. That means it could get a 5.7-inch Quad HD display and the latest octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor.

The smaller Lumia 950 will pack a 3000 mAh battery and its bigger sibling will need a much bigger unit so it is rumored that it will be equipped with a 3300 mAh battery. Both handsets are said to be getting a 20 MP PureView rear-facing camera and a5 MP front-facing shooter.

Microsoft remains tightlipped about the pair of handsets. However, Techno Buffalo thinks that the world isn't far away from seeing the very first Windows 10-powered handsets, if one considers Blass' solid track record when it comes to leaking future device releases from tech firms.
