The Lumia 940 and 940 XL, Microsoft's purported upcoming flagships, were leaked in a new press render that is making the rounds online. The image comes from tech leakster Evan Blass aka evleaks.

Notably, there's no difference between the two handsets in terms of appearance, at least on the front. On the back, the modifications will allow users to tell the devices apart.

The Lumia 940 XL's camera has a thinner ring surrounding it while the Lumia 940's has a much thicker loop. Both seem to have a triple LED flash, but the one on the Lumia 940 is placed outside the said loop. In the 940 XL, the flash sits right next to the camera.

Also, the Lumia 940 XL has single grill speakers on the top portion, just above the shooter and another one on the bottom. The loud speaker mesh is placed on the device's right side. The Lumia 940, on the other hand, has the loud speaker on the right of the camera and there seems to be no single grill speakers in sight. That said, it is believed that the definitive music experience is being reserved for the bigger brother.

The placement of the buttons on the side of the flagships are different, too. On the Microsoft Lumia 940 XL, there are three closely placed buttons, which are believed to be the toggles for volume up, power, and volume down buttons. The other button placed far below is said to be a dedicated camera button. Unlike its big kin, the Microsoft Lumia 940 has its volume (up and down) rocker in one piece. Underneath this is the power button, and the last one beneath it is the same dedicated camera button.

As for the rest of the specs, the Microsoft Lumia 940 is allegedly coming with a 5.2-inch WQHD (2560 x 1440) display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, 3 GB RAM, and a 3000 mAh battery. The XL version, on the other hand, is said to have a 5.7-inch WQHD screen backed by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset. It is expected to boast 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage space and a much bigger 3300 mAh battery.

Both is said to have Windows 10 on board, an iris scanner and a 20 MP/ 5 MP camera combo.

The Microsoft Lumia 940 and 940 XL are reportedly seeing the light of day on Oct. 19 along with the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 and the Band 2.
