When Microsoft announced the release of the new Windows 10 platform on July 29, the tech giant also stated that together with the new operating system's launch is the inclusion of its digital personal assistant, Cortana. Microsoft said that the original plan was to launch Cortana on July 29 in seven countries.

"On July 29th, Cortana will be available in Windows 10 in seven countries, the United States, the United Kingdom, China, France, Italy, Germany, and Spain," Microsoft's Marcus Ash, group progam manager for Cortana, stated.

However, the seven countries for the initial launch is only the tip of the iceberg.

Ash said, "And we're also excited that through the Windows Insider program this summer, we're going to continue to bring Cortana to more customers in more countries."

Ash also stated in the official Microsoft blog that the rollout for Cortana will be the same as with Windows 10, which would come out on different schedules in different global markets. For Windows 10, the staggered rollout is based on the editions for the new platform, with Windows Insider program members getting the PC and laptop editions first.

Cortana, on the other hand, will have a drawn-out release since the developers want a more tailored approach for the digital assistant based on the locale in order to come out with a more personalized digital assistant. In the coming months, for instance, it will be made available to Windows Insider subscribers in Australia and Japan, as well as in English in Canada and India; then later in Mexico and Brazil, and in French in Canada.

Ash wrote, "Cortana is customized to reflect the local language, idioms and speech patterns of each country. We craft Cortana's local personality based on insights about each culture while at the same time staying true to the foundational principles that are universal to all markets."
