Mets trade rumors: Steve Pearce, Jonathan Lucroy possible picks before non-waiver trade deadline

With the trade deadline almost upon them, rumors abound that the New York Mets will add Steve Pearce from the Tampa Bay Rays because of his utility skills.

According to ESPN, this might not be likely, though, since they have not heard any imminent trades involving the Mets. However, if anything ever materializes without any guarantees, the Mets would most probably come closer to the non-waiver trade deadline at 4 p.m. ET. After all, the team was able to snag Addison read last year using a waiver deal. However, the reports also state that it is unlikely that the Mets will trade Double-A prospects Amed Rosario and Dominic Smith.

Meanwhile, the Inquisitr said that it is possible for the team to close a deal with Jonathan Lucroy from the Milwaukee Brewers, but if it was true, the Mets will have to give up one of their top young hitters to accomplish the deal. The two teams were rumored to be in talks for the past days, with the Brewers almost backing away from it. However, with the Mets possibly putting Brandon Nimo, an excellent outfielder, up for trade, they might just come through.

Aside from Nimo, it is also rumored that the deal will also include Travis d'Arnaud, a catcher, and another third player who has not been identified as of now. The sense of urgency seems to lend this rumor some credit because of the August 1 deadline for the non-waiver trades, which will motivate both of the teams to make it happen.

Regardless, this deal seems to be most-needed by the New York Mets, since the team has been having some problems with offense this year, especially with runners in scoring position. Travis d'Arnaud is very strong at the plate, but Lucroy's capabilities far outweigh his, which will certainly boost the team's offensive capabilities.
