'Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain' news: Forward Operations Bases detailed

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Konami

Game company Konami recently published screenshots of "Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain" from both the old and the new consoles to compare the quality. The photos prove that the Fox Engine used for the game can do wonders, with all versions looking amazing.

While the differences are not too difficult to spot, IGN claims that the upcoming open world action-adventure stealth video game looks stellar, on the PS3 in particular. The game on the last-gen Sony console will be at 720p resolution and will run at 30 fps. For the PS4, it will be upped to 1080p and 60 fps.

On the Xbox One, "Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain" will run at 900p resolution but with 1080p output and 60 fps. The version on the older Xbox 360 will play at 720p resolution at 30 fps. As for the PC, the title will render at 3840 x 2160 pixels and run at 60fps.

In other related news, Konami conducted a Q&A on Twitter, exclusive to GameSpot, which resulted to the revelation of a slew of details about the game's Forward Operating Bases and online functionality. One inquiry about the possibility of a gamer fighting for a friend's FOB was raised.

Konami said that this can happen but "not at the same time," adding that "there is no co-op but you can fight in place of them to defend his/ her base." More about the FOB, fans also asked Konami as to what extent they can customize them.

"What you can decide is the placement of your defenses and to what level you want each area covered. This includes how many soldiers, security devices, or high-powered weapons are available in each area," the developer explained.

In response to a question about what players can do in the motherbase, Konami said, "Train and do some target practice, take showers, and explore as well as talk and fight with fellow Diamond Dogs. There's even more to do throughout your base but we want you to look forward to finding out for yourself 9/1."

"Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain" will be released on Sept. 1.
