Manny Pacquiao has made it clear that his April 9 showdown with Timothy Bradley Jr. is his last.
Speaking to local newspaper Philippine Star, the boxer/lawmaker once again made it clear that he is set to retire and is committed to making things work in his political career.
Pacquiao will be running for a senate seat in the Philippines and is in a good position to snag one of the senatorial seats based on surveys. Even though constantly criticized for his poor attendance as a congressman, Pacquiao is on a mission to prove that he deserves a higher position in the Philippine government hierarchy.
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum and trainer Freddie Roach lead the list of people who feel that Pacquiao will continue to fight even after the Bradley bout. Both feel that retiring at this stage may be too early and that the eight-time division champ still has a fire burning inside of him to compete.
Pacquiao scoffed all that once again, although he did mention in the said interview that he could always come back. It's really a no-brainer in case he does since everyone is still leaving some hope for a possible showdown between him and undefeated American Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Like Pacquiao, Mayweather is another fighter whom many feel is not done in the ring. The American fighter retired last September after reaching his goal of 49–0 mark, but the rumblings around is that he will eventually decide to break out of that tie with boxing legend Rocky Marciano.
Pacquiao is a front-runner for that, considering it stands to be the most lucrative among Mayweather's options.
In a recent interview with On the Ropes Boxing, Shawn Porter mentioned Mayweather's possible comeback and believes that Mayweather will be an interested spectator when he faces off against Keith Thurman on March 12.
Porter believes that Mayweather will fight one last time, although it will depend on who the flamboyant one feels he can still keep in step with.
