MacBook Pro 2016 release date, specs and features: Prices of MacBooks fluctuate

For some fans who are waiting for an upcoming flagship, one telltale sign of a new-gen model coming out is when prices of older- and current-gen models of the device go on sale. However, this is not the case with Apple's MacBook lineup, as reports suggest that although some retailers have slashed their prices, some MacBook markets have raised theirs.

In a report by Australian Network News, there is a surge in the prices of choice Apple devices in some key cities. Aside from Australia, MacBook prices for current- and older-gen models have also increased in Brazil, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Thailand, and Turkey.

In New Zealand alone, the website reported that the current MacBook lineup now retailed for $1,599 to $2,199. This range is higher than earlier price tags, which pegged a MacBook Air from $1,399 to $1,799. The same is true with other aforementioned markets.

However, instead of the hiking prices being a sign of Apple nearing a new product launch, the price changes reflect fluctuations in the dollar market and exchange rates.

While some observers mention the rising prices of Apple products in select markets, other reports touch on price changes, this time on a downward trend.

According to Yibada, some online retailers have slashed prices off their Apple products, with some price tags being discounted by as much as $800. Apple Insider lists rebates with a $300 to $600 for some mid-2015 MacBook Pro models, while the previous 2014 version gets as much as $800 discount. There are also MacBook Pro bundles with free AppleCare plans included in the deal.

The promotion will end on Oct. 31.

Aside from Apple Insider, electronics retailer Adorama has also been listed as having an ongoing sale.

Although the discounts were significant, this might not mean that a new MacBook Pro will roll out anytime soon. Rumors suggest the new Apple flagship to be coming out to consumers by next year, alongside a new iPad Air.
