MacBook Air 2016 release date: Laptop rumored to be cancelled to pave the way for MacBook Pro

 Apple

A lot of reports are starting to say that the upcoming MacBook Air 2016 will be cancelled. However, these are still rumors, but pieces of evidence are pointing to its permanent cancellation.

According to Game N Guide, the reason for the MacBook Air's cancellation is Apple shifting its focus to producing the MacBook Pro series instead. This is despite the fact that the MacBook Air featured a lot of enhancements ever since it was released years ago, and that people were still expectant of its 2016 version announcement. However, it is most likely for Apple to move on and pave the way for more technologically-advanced products.

Also, another reason could be the fact that there are some Ultrabooks that are already capable of matching Apple's Macbooks. Actually, it has come a long way after it was first released in order to compete with the MacBook Air, being light and thin. However, it still features good Intel Core processors, as well as fast SSD storage and superbly long battery life. As such, it is possible for Apple to give up its Macbook Air to develop a more formidable product.

This rumor is supported by the University Herald's report stating that the MacBook Air was never mentioned at this year's WWDC event. Also, the disappointment of fans over the Macbook Air never getting the highly sought-after retina display could also be a reason for its decline in popularity.

Meanwhile, its counterpart the MacBook Pro is expected to be released this September and it will have a bunch of major modifications with its specs. The same report by University Herald states that rumors point that this device will have the latest macOS Sierra, as well as iPhone's SIRI. Furthermore, it is even expected to have an OLED touch bar, which has been requested by fans for a long time.
