Oklahoma City Thunder's Russell Westbrook was recently linked to the Los Angeles Lakers since he will be a free agent in 2017, but the explosive point guard is content with where he is and is not looking to move as of now.
There were rumors that the Lakers had a strong chance of signing Westbrook in 2017 if the team acquires first his teammate and former Most Valuable Player (MVP) Kevin Durant, who is set to be a free agent following the 2015–16 season.
However in a Twitter post by Anthony Slater of the Oklahoman, he posted a reporter's interview with Westbrook, who does not appear to be thrilled with the possibility of playing for Los Angeles.
Westbrook said in the interview that growing up, his team was the Lakers, but he did not dream of playing for the purple and gold because he never thought he was going to be in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
The reporter then asked if the 27-year-old point guard would want to play for the Lakers and he replied, "Nah, I like where I am now. Oklahoma is a great place for me."
Westbrook has been with the Thunder since they selected him fourth overall in the 2008 NBA Draft.
This season, Westbrook is again thriving, averaging 24.1 points, 7.6 rebounds, 10 assists, and 2.3 steals in 34.3 minutes of action per game.
The Thunder are also soaring with him as they are the third best team in the tough Western Conference with a 40–14 record.
It is expected that Westbrook stays with Oklahoma City, a team that is consistently contending in the playoffs in the past few seasons, instead of heading to Los Angeles Lakers, a rebuilding franchise.
But the appeal of playing for a historic organization that is also his hometown team may be enough come 2017 for the Lakers to lure Westbrook.
