Looking to get involved in the London 2012 Games?

The London 2012 Olympic Games will be the biggest sporting event ever to hit the UK and churches are being encouraged to get involved.

Many are starting to come together under the banner of the More than Gold initiative to coordinate their outreach plans.

If your church wants to seize hold of this opportunity but is in need of some inspiration or advice, then a new book has been published by Authentic Media in association with More than Gold to help.

Beyond the Gold has been written by Bryan Mason, executive of Higher Sports and former secondary school deputy head teacher.

The book offers lots of vital information and ideas for churches looking to get involved in sports ministry.

It also suggests a vibrant programme of activities for churches wanting to provide a fresh expression of church in their communities.

Given its capacity to reach men and women of all ages, Mason is encouraging churches to see sport as a ministry which is as vital to the church programme as other areas like youth work or women's ministry.

The book has been endorsed by David Willson, chief executive of More than Gold.

He said: "'The 2012 Games provide an unprecedented opportunity for Christians to reach out to their local community.

"Beyond the Gold gives insight into how to take advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity and create an on-going sports ministry."

Beyond the Gold is priced £7.99.
