Life of Christ producers going for gold in 2012

You may be forgiven for thinking that the hottest seats in 2012 will be for the Olympic Games in London, but Wintershall’s Life of Christ says it is proving to be a serious contender with one school already snapping up a large booking between 19 and 24 June 2012, just days after this year's June production finished.

No less epic or even athletic, this open-air event which has been running over the last week of June for the past 12 years, has kept audiences of up to 2,500 daily, entertained with breathtaking drama as well as its own ‘sports’ of sheep-herding, riders on horse-back, wedding dancing, hill-climbing, fishing, swimming and rowing.

Despite audiences proclaiming this year “the best ever”, the performers and writer and producer Peter Hutley, on whose stunning Estate the spectacle takes place, are taking a break in 2011 to come back refreshed and renewed with new scenes and added action in 2012.

The colourful drama doesn't take place in only one spot on a fixed stage, but move from scene to scene with the action and the audience in tow, drawn them into the story as vivid reminders of His Word untold and the Gospels are brought to life.

Earlier this year, members of the cast performed the Passion on Good Friday in Trafalgar Square to audiences of over 20,000 and it is hoped that this will be repeated in 2011.

The Wintershall Estate, just outside Guildford in Surrey, is also home to Acts of the Apostles and The Nativity play which will continue in 2011 as normal.
