LG G4 on Sprint getting Android 6.0 Marshmallow update

LG G4 owners in the United States will finally get to see what Android 6.0 Marshmallow brings, with reports that the operating system (OS) update is now being rolled out.

The thing is the rollout only covers Sprint subscribers, making the mobile carrier the first one to do so for the U.S. market.

Sprint follows the initial push by LG for LG G4 owners over in Poland last October. At the time of its release, it was mentioned that Europe, Asia, and America would be next in line and, apparently, that time has now come. Korea eventually became the second country to get the Android 6.0 M update.

As far as the U.S. market is concerned, Android 6.0 M officially became available as early as Dec. 17. For reference, the software version of the update is LS991ZV9.

With its availability, LG G4 owners will be making a big jump from Android 5.1 Lollipop to Android 6.0 M.

Among the features included in the update are the much talked about improved battery life management courtesy of the Doze app; better permissions handling for apps; a new floating text selection toolbar; better external storage handling; Google Now on Tap; new fingerprint APIs; security updates; and more.

It may be wise to check out the phone's setting from time-to-time to see if the update is already available.

To do so, head on over to the phone's settings and select the following in this sequence: About Phone, Common, Update Center, and Software Update. Then see if the over-the-air (OTA) update is ready for downloading.

To ensure proper download of the patch, make sure that the device is using a reliable Internet connection. It would be wise to make sure as well that the phone is charged by at least 50%.

It remains to be seen which regions carrying the LG G4 are next in line, not to mention the next U.S. carriers who could be rolling out the Android 6.0 M update.
