LG G4 Android 6.0 news: LG G4 can carry stock Android Marshmallow

 LG Newsroom

LG announced recently that it will have one of the first non-Nexus devices to receive the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow update, starting with the company's G4 flagship. However, although the custom kernel for the new version is already available and some fans have already been notified of the update via OTA notifications, tech-savvy fans are wondering if the stock Android 6.0 Marshmallow ROM can be installed.

Fortunately, it seems that it is now possible to root the at least one model of the G4 to the official Android Marshmallow platform.

According to NeuroGadget, owners of the LG G4 version H815, and using it unlocked, will be able to flash the device to the official Android Marshmallow platform. The firmware for the unbloated version of the Android 6.0 environment has been published by developers, particularly members of the XDA Developers group.

Meanwhile, the report also mentioned that the rooting of the LG G4 is for above-average to tech-savvy users only, as the device is in danger of being bricked during the process.

As with any manual tech updates, it is best to make a backup first of all the apps, file, and programs on the device.

After checking the device's version to be the G4-H815, users should make sure that the bootloader is unlocked for the device, preferably using the official unlock tool from LG. The owner should also check if the device is running an update TWRP version (2.8.7 or later).

Users should then download the needed files from the XDA website, or from third-party file servers from industry followers such as GadgetUnlocker.

Owners can then transfer the files into the device, and then boot the G4 into Recovery Mode. In this part of the process, there will be both Backup and Factory Reset options. Users can select Backup first, and the Wipe option under Factory Reset. The device will prompt an Install action, and users can locate the Android Marshmallow files in the device to install them. The device will then flash the files one after the other, and then reboot.
