The ultra light LaVie Z laptop from Lenovo is now available in the market.

First unveiled at this year's Consumer Electronics Show, the ultra light device is touted as an alternative to Apple's new Macbook. The lighter of the two LaVie Z variants weighs a mere 1.87 pounds, much lighter than Apple's 2.03-pound device.

However, it seems that weight would be the only thing that the new Lenovo laptop has over the recently-launched new Macbook. In terms of display, Apple still has the competition beat, since its laptop has a Retina display with 2304 x 1440 resolution at 226 pixels per inch. The new Lenovo LaVie Z, on the other hand, has a higher resolution of 2560 x 1440, but the pixel density is much lower at 220.

The new Macbook is also thinner at 0.52 inch at its slimmest, while the Lenovo device is at 0.67 inch.

Specs-wise, the new LaVie Z is a heavy player in the tech department. Both the standard version and the hybrid LaVie Z 360 sport a 2.40 GHz Intel Core i7, integrated Intel graphics, a whopping 8 GB of RAM, and a 256 GB storage. For connectivity, there are two USB 3.0 ports, one HDMI port, and an SD card reader for expanded storage. Both versions also come with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/c connectivity, Bluetooth 4.0, and a 720p webcam.

The two LaVie Z versions have the same specs under the hood. The hybrid LaVie Z 360, however, sports a convertible 13.3-inch QHD touchscreen that turns the laptop into a tablet.

Both versions can now be purchased directly from Lenovo's online store. For the standard LaVie Z laptop, the price is $1,499, much higher than the previously announced price. The convertible LaVie Z 360, on the other hand, has a 360-degree rotatable touchscreen display and is priced at $1,699.
