Gregory Yates is back with his killing spree in the two-hour premiere of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" season 17 today, Sept. 23. The unit never imagined going back to the place where Yates buried all his victims together with his horrible crimes until a new victim washes ashore.
With the familiar tactics used in the killing and disposal of the body, Detective Rollins thinks that the serial killer has reverted to his ways and tries to cajole him into admitting his crime. And it looks like she won't have a hard time.
According to executive producer Neal Baer, Rollins has a way with "psychos" and "always gets in to [their] head." This will manifest clearly at the beginning of season 17. Baer reveals that it may be because there's "something off" about her.
"She relates to these guys and get into their head, but the other question is: Is he getting into her head? That's the setup — whether or not he's telling the truth. Even when we think we know the answer to that, there's a few more tricks and turns," the executive producer teased to TV Line.
But as teased in the synopsis, Rollins will be in for a surprising revelation from Yates — one that will shake the police department to its core. When they reach court, things will get even more complicated and difficult to get out of.
"As the case goes to court, Barba faces off against two hotshot defense attorneys in a trial that leads to blackmail, an incriminating confession, a new victim and a fugitive suspect," the synopsis reads, summing up the drama and tension packed in the new season.
As the new run of the "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" commences, Tony nominee Broadway actor Andy Karl will join the unit to play the role of Deputy Chief William Dodds' son Sergeant Mike Dodds, who serves as the second-in-command to acting commander Olivia Benson. His arrival is one to look forward to as he brings with him conflicts in the office.
