LA Lakers rumors: Jeremy Lin trade doesn't look possible

The Los Angeles Lakers could be in a bind if rumors about their planned trade involving Jeremy Lin is true. While it is no secret that Lin has not exactly been fitting into the system of the Lakers and head coach Byron Scott, trading him may not be easy considering his fat salary.

Lin currently holds a salary worth $8.37 million although he is really making close to $15 million according to a report by Nick Borges of ESPN Insider.

Hence, if the Lakers are looking to deal Lin, it could mean taking in a player which also carries the same amount, dashing plans of freeing up some cap space to prepare for the offseason and get new star players to perk up their rebuilding efforts.

With Lin becoming a free agent by season's end, sources say that Lin may likely be taking his act elsewhere.

Lin has been far from being productive and has been known to have his issues in coping with Kobe Bryant and Scott.

And on that note, everyone knows that Kobe has a say in team moves. Despite being sidelined yet again for the rest of the season, it has become apparent that he is not fond of Lin who made his mark when he was still in New York with the Knicks.

With an immediate trade looking bleak for the Lakers, both may have to co-exist for the remainder of the regular season. The Lakers' chances of making the playoffs have become close to nil and it looks like they will be banking on free agency and rookies in the offseason.

Potential targets include Goran Dragic and Reggie Jackson, although the names of Marc Gasol, Rajon Rondo and even Kevin Love are said to be viable targets. Aside from Dragic and Jackson though, the others are expected to remain with their current ballclubs.
