The matriarch of Lakewood Church, Dolores "Dodie" Osteen believes in miracles and wants the faithful to believe that God will perform them for them as well.

According to Osteen, her life is a living proof of miracles which she details in her new book "If My Heart Could Talk".

Dodie, the mother of Lakewood pastor and bestselling author Joel Osteen and widow of Lakewood founder John Osteen shared that she has experienced many miracles in her life and within her family.

She said that God saved her daughter Lisa from a life of handicaps because of complications she may have suffered when she was in her mother's womb.

But this was not the only time Lisa was saved by God from harm as she was also protected by God when a package bomb sent to the church exploded in her lap and she escaped serious injury.

Joel was also saved from an accident in a slippery Houston highway before he became a pastor.

But the biggest testament to God's miracle in Dodie's life was when she was saved by God from metastatic liver cancer when she was in her 40s.

"I could have died when I was 48. Now I'm 82, and I'm working for Him. I want people to know that God is a good God. He does want to answer prayers. All we have to do is have faith and hope. Sometimes life is hard, but God helps us get through," she said.

For his part, Pastor Joel Osteen said that his mother has been one of the biggest driving forces in his life, reported Houston Chronicle.

"There's so much I could tell you about my mother. The lessons she taught me have changed my life. I saw how my mother loved and adored my father. When my father died, it was a time of profound loss and sadness. But my mother realised God still had great things in store for her, and she has soared in an amazing way."

Dodie is currently in charge of the prayer ministry and funerals at Lakewood church.
