Jeremy Lin news: Expected to step up after Michael Kidd-Gilchrist injury

The Charlotte Hornets suffered another big blow when Michael Kidd-Gilchrist returned from sick bay. Unfortunately, Kidd-Gilchrist's comeback was short-lived as the veteran forward sustained yet again another shoulder injury.

Kidd-Gilchrist, who rejoined his team only last Jan. 29, suffered his latest injury when the Hornets faced the Indiana Pacers last Wednesday.

His return gave the wards of head coach Steve Clifford a big boost, although he may have relied too heavily on the fragile forward by giving him extended minutes.

Even though nothing is official yet, there is the looming fact that Kidd-Gilchrist could end up out of the season.

The forward reportedly suffered a torn labrum on his right shoulder. The said shoulder is the same one that he had surgically treated five months ago.

Rehab could be an option, although another season-ending surgery seems a better recourse. With that said, Clifford may have to call on the likes of Jeremy Lin or Jeremy Lamb to fill in, although it doesn't follow that either would be a starter.

Lin has proven what he can do for the Hornets, a key contributor on both sides of the court. Even though his size could be an issue if he ends up playing a stretch small forward, the Hornets aren't left with much options.

Rather than Lin or Lamb, the Hornets could try out P.J. Hairston instead; but comparing the three, Clifford may have better luck getting some headway with Lin or Lamb.

Right now, the Hornets have a good shot at the playoffs with a 27–27 card. Even though that could all change when the regular season returns to full swing next week, Clifford will need to make the necessary adjustments with the loss of Kidd-Gilchrist.

The Hornets will return to action on Feb. 19 when they visit a struggling Milwaukee Bucks quintet (22–32).
