'It's time to release worship to the poor'

Mission Worship's international conference, held in Eastbourne last weekend was inspired by a prophetic word that was first given to the late Managing Director of Kingsway, John Paculabo.

"It's time to release worship to the poor" was a phrase that prophesied over Mr Paculabo before he founded Ray of Hope, a charity which educated and cared for the river people of the Amazon region of Brazil.

Shortly before his death in January, Mr Paculabo entrusted the vision of Ray of Hope into the hands of Justice & Mercy Amazon (JMA). Conference delegates, many of whom had heard the 66 year old speak about his trips to the Amazon at previous Mission Worship events, were encouraged to give toward the new charity, which has already built a centre in the jungle named after the Ray of Hope founder.

Writing in the conference program, organisers said: "The poor have always been close to the heart of God, Jesus references them as He declares His ministry…worship that is Christ centred is worship that has an awareness of the poor and the marginalised."

The conference began on Friday evening with worship leaders Tim Hughes, Ben Cantelon and Luke Hellebronth leading thousands in singing before American mega church pastor Glenn Packiam spoke.

Saturday featured seminars from Lou Fellingham (Can we plan to be spontaneous?), Chris McCarley (New Songs) and Tim Martin (Play by ear and get away from the chords).

Worship leaders Martin Smith, Nathan Jess and Robin Mark also made appearances as delegates enjoyed hours of praise and worship as well as training and teaching from speakers including Ishmael, Pete James and Doug Williams.

Next year's event will run from 21 to 23 November and prices start from £70 if booked before 13 December 2013.
