As Apple focused its September event on launching the new iterations of iPhones and the professional-level iPad Pro, what most people didn't know is that one of the Apple devices that also graced the event was the iPad Mini 4.

According to industry observer EnGadget, Apple recovered from the "mere afterthought" of its upgrade in last year's iPad Mini 3, since the new iteration had a host of both new and updated features.

One of the new features of the iPad Mini 4 is its upgraded specs sheet. Rather than using the old A7 chipset of its predecessors, or the modified A8X from the iPad Air 2, Apple decided to use the newer A8 processor from the iPhone 6, and also upgraded the Mini 4's RAM to 2 GB. Meanwhile, according to The Verge, the new Mini's design and aesthetics are better than its predecessors. Dimension-wise, the new tablet is 10 percent lighter and 22 percent thinner than the iPad Mini 2 and 3, with the design overhauled to make the tablet more like a miniature version of the new iPads than an entirely different, plastic-like lineup.

Meanwhile, Apple simply eliminated the air gap between the new iPad Mini's cover glass and the Retina LCD, giving the new Mini vibrant a bright display and resolution at par with the iPad Air 2.

In addition, the new iPad Mini has all the bells and whistles of an updated Apple product. The main camera has been updated and now carries an 8-MP iSight lens that is able to capture 1080p videos and HDR photos. Meanwhile, the new tablet comes with iOS 9 , meaning users can benefit from the new platform's features such as split-screen multitasking, always-on and a more responsive Siri, and faster options for WiFi and LTE connectivity.
