iPad Air 3 release date rumors: Apple may be ditching the Air series

Will Apple release a successor to the iPad Air 2? Apple

Apple fans are expecting that iPad Air 3 will arrive when September 2016 or March 2017 comes. It is also expected to bring in several new features. However, many also believe that the company has gotten rid of the Air tablet series and that the iPad Air 2 is the last of its kind.

The iPad Air 3 has been on the waiting list since September of last year. Fans are speculating that the new tablet model will be thinner, faster and more energy-efficient than its predecessor. It is also rumored to come with a Smart Connector port that will let its user attach the Smart Keyboard Cover. Since iOS 10 was already announced, it is also expected to be installed on the rumored device when it arrives this September or in May of next year, based on several reports.

It was also rumored that the Apple Pencil will be compatible, a 7000-series aluminum will be used on its body, and will be available in four colors, silver, gold, space grey, and rose gold, MacWorld reported.

However, it never materialized when it was expected, and instead two other tablets were introduced, the 12.9-inch and 9.7-inch iPad Pro models.  The smaller iPod Pro has the same screen size as the iPad Air and was a surprise for the fans. It was rumored the smaller model has taken the spot, and may also mean that Apple may not release an Air tablet successor any longer.

Fans don't want to give up easily, and they even see discounts on the iPad Air 2 as a sign that a new model is about to arrive, as was the case when US-based sellers offered discounts on the current tablet model. Several retailers are offering up to US$250 discount on the almost 2-year-old tablet.

Fans are looking forward to solid news about the iPad Air 3 in the near future.
