Speculations suggest that the new iPad Air will launch later this year, after some setbacks due to the introduction of the iPad Pro.

According to Trusted Reviews, the new iPad Air may be revealed at the September launch event by Apple. Although the Cupertino-based company has to provide details on a late 2016 event (the company is focused on the upcoming WWDC event happening next month), Apple is known to have an annual launch late in the year for some of its upgrades and new lineup additions.

The late 2016 debut of the iPad Air 3 is certainly plausible. Given the timeframe, its predecessor the iPad Air 2 was also launched at roughly the same time (it became available October 2014). In addition, the period in between also gives Apple some time to market its new iPad addition, the 2016 edition of the iPad Pro. The new 9.7-inch iPad Pro was launched last March.

In addition, a 2016 launch for the iPad Air 3 is already expected, as hardcore fans have been waiting for a long time for a new iPad Air. According to rumors, the iPad Air 3 was supposed to launch last year, but has to give way to another flagship product that counters the then-newly released Surface Pro 4 – the 12.9-inch iPad Pro.

Meanwhile, when the new 2016 edition of the iPad Pro was launched early this year, it is said that Apple is ditching the iPad Air 3, together with the entire Air lineup, in favor of the new 9.-7-inch iPad Pro slate.

However, rumors about the iPad Air 3 continue to circulate and supposed leaks and inside information also keep on cropping up. This means that Apple may be thinking of following up the iPad Air lineup with a new device, after all. According to supposed specs sheets, the iPad Air will be lighter and thinner than its predecessor, with some major upgrades in the design, build and internals.
