Is Apple be intending for its upcoming platform to breathe life onto old iOS devices?
Following up on its report made early this year, Apple fan and observer site 9to5mac said that the upcoming iOS 9 would be a major update for Apple's proprietary operating system, and would heavily feature performance optimizations. The new platform, codenamed "Monarch," is reported to have so many improvements and enhancements that observers note it may also fully optimize older generations of Apple devices.
Although it can be said that Apple will be making an entirely new iOS to cater to upcoming flagship devices, and therefore translate it into future sales, sources also say that the iOS 9 will include optimization for legacy iPhones and iPads. According to reports, previous generations of A5-powered devices, particularly the original iPad mini and the already discontinued iPhone 4S, will be able to update to iOS 9. Accordingly, the much-older iPhone 4 will also be included.
Apple is reportedly working on a complete, feature-packed iOS 9 that would be specifically partnered with older Apple devices from the ground up, separate from a new platform for newer devices. This is to make sure that the separate older components of legacy Apple devices will be able to maximize the upcoming operating system.
Besides re-organizing and thoroughly updating its iOS 9 into two different versions, Apple is also planning to add multi-tasking features into the upcoming platform, although it is still unclear if the features would be added across all legacy and newer Apple devices, or just the recent versions of iPads. Said features will introduce split-screen modes and multi-user log-ins. In addition, Apple is also supposedly working on having these features installed not just on its upcoming mobile platform, but also on the new OS X 10.11 for Macs.
