Intel has refreshed its 14 nm FinFET chips when it officially announced its seventh-generation processors, the Kaby Lake. The faster and more responsive new processor will arrive first on laptops and tablets, and then on desktops and server chips within the next few months.
According to a press kit released by the company, the Intel Kaby Lake is up to 12 percent faster in terms of productivity performance and can offer up to 19 percent increase in web performance compared to its previous generation.
Navin Shenoy, Intel's corporate vice manger and general manager for the Client Computing Group, said in the announcement, "To power these experiences, today I'm excited to unveil the new 7th Gen Intel Core processors. Built for the immersive internet, this new generation of processors leverages our long-standing performance leadership and adds unmatched new media capabilities."
Additionally, the 7th generation processor can give its users access to premium quality videos that will bring entertainment to a completely new level. The new chip can seamlessly process 4K UHD content and process 360-degree video clips faster. The Verge added that it will also benefit games and applications related to virtual and augmented reality.
Thunderbolt 3 support will also arrive on laptops equipped with the processor, which will then allow gamers to plug in their devices to an external graphics dock and 4K UHD display monitors. The company also said stated that Kaby Lake-equipped laptops would be able to run "Overwatch" anytime and anywhere.
Consumers can expect more than a 100 laptops and 2-in1 to arrive this coming holiday season that are already equipped with the new processor. The company will start shipping desktops and enterprise Intel Core chips by early next year.
Shenoy also added, "To say we are excited about our new 7th Gen Intel Core family is an understatement. I don't think there has ever been a better time to check out what a new Intel-powered PC can do."
