Inquiry into former Dean of Manchester gathers pace

Manchester Cathedral

The inquiry into abuse allegations against the former Dean of Manchester is asking people to come forward with information.

The late Robert Waddington became Dean of Manchester Cathedral in 1984 and held the post until his retirement in 1993. He passed away in 2007.

Evidence of serial abuse committed by Waddington was uncovered in a joint investigation by The Times and The Australian.

The former Archbishop of York, Lord Hope of Thornes, was accused of failing to report the abuse to the police and child protection agencies at the time.

An inquiry into allegations of abuse by Waddington was set up by the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, in response to the investigation by The Times and The Australian.

It is being chaired by Judge Sally Cahill QC and is currently gathering evidence into the complaints of abuse as well as the Church's handling of them.

Anyone who may have relevant information is being asked to contact the Clerk to The Inquiry Mrs Nicola Harding at Cathedral Chambers, 4 Kirkgate, Ripon, North Yorkshire, HG4 1PA or via njh@tunnardsolicitors.com
