Apple iMac fans are longing for an upgraded model already even if the all-in-one received its latest upgrade less than one year ago. According to the latest rumor, it could possibly include the recently announced AMD GPU that is based on its Polaris 10 architecture. Fans are also speculating that the upcoming models will be virtual reality-ready.
Macworld reported that if Apple tries to create an iMac 2016, it could contain the latest AMD Radeon Polaris 10 graphics chips. AMD has created several new models of GPUs that manufacturers like Apple can incorporate in their machines which will make them more powerful than their previous models.
Additionally, the latest GPU chips are powerful enough to be VR-ready as well, which is one of the latest technology crazes that Apple users are longing to experience. Palmer Lucky, Oculus VR founder, even said previously that the Rift would not work with Apple machines because they lack the power to drive their VR gadget.
The report also added that AMD Zen processors could also end up on iMac 2016. The new processor is also powerful enough to compete with Intel chips, boasting of 8 cores and 16 threads, providing all the power that a power user may need.
However, Kaby Lake, the next-gen Intel processor, is believed to be the top choice since it will be offering enhanced graphics that can support 4K displays and feature USB 3.1 and DisplayPort 1.2. Additionally, the upcoming all-in-one model may also incorporate a storage called Fusion Drive, which is a combination of flash and conventional storage, Mobile and Apps added.
iMac 2016 is expected to contain a full upgrade of its processor, GPU, memory, storage and other components. A proper upgrade for the iMac happened way back in September 2013. Last year, it was only the Retina screen that was added to the smaller Mac, while the large ones received the Skylake processor.
Fans are speculating that a new iMac will be unveiled sometime in October this year.
