Apple updated its iMac last year. Enthusiasts are now expecting that a new one will arrive in October, before the holiday season starts. It is speculated that the upcoming models will sport the latest Kaby Lake processors and AMD's Polaris GPUs. It will reportedly be powerful enough for VR headsets to work with them.

A new iMac was not announced alongside the iPhone 7. On closer inspection, the iMac announcement last year happened at a separate event, weeks after the smartphone's announcement. There is still a good chance that the company could hold an October event., MacWorld reported.

The report also mentioned that the Cupertino-based tech giant may favor the new Intel Core chips over AMD's Zen processor, because of Thunderbolt 3, USB 3.1 and DisplayPort 1.2 features. However, it cannot be ruled out that there is a possibility that the Zen chips can be featured on some models as well.

It is also believed that iMac 2016 models could feature better performance GPUs. AMD and NVIDIA has released a wide range of new generation graphic cards that could very well work with the Apple machines. If t high-end GPUs will be offered on the table, then it will be powerful enough to support those VR headgears and apps.

WCCFTech previously reported that AMD is said to be supplying Apple with 400 series Polaris-based GPUs. These GPUs have the capacities that VR and modern games need, yet less power requirements compared to their NVIDIA counterpart. However, the deal between Apple and AMD still needs a confirmation from the two tech giants.

Currently, Apple's iMac lineup already includes AMD GPUs, which comes standard for the 27-inch models. The 21-inch all-in-one model contains the Intel Iris Pro 6200.

Meanwhile, Apple has recently concluded September event only covered the iPhone 7 smartphone, which does not contain any headphone jack and the Apple Watch Series 2.

Fans are looking forward to the supposed October event.
