Could a new chipset drive up the fortunes of a faltering HTC One M9?

Apparently, rumors have it that HTC could be relaunching the HTC One M9 but with a slight upgrade. Rather than the old Snapdragon 810 processor, the company will reportedly release a new one with a MediaTek chipset, according to  multiple sources.

And being a rumor, there is still no certainty on what kind of chipset this would be. It could be a Helio X10 or Helio X20 if ever HTC is bent on applying a small upgrade.

Take into consideration that it could and could not happen. Even though HTC has been known to unveil variations of its devices, HTC could be considering such since the company has not been doing that well in the smartphone segment.

Sales haven't exactly panned out in accordance to the company's forecasts; and from the looks of it, these slight changes may not dramatically turn their fortunes just like that.

For those who are unaware, the original specs (except for the processor) of the HTC One M9 include a 5.0-inch 1080p display, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage that is expandable via microSD, a 20-megapixel main camera, and a 4-megapixel front-facing shooter.

The MediaTek variant will reportedly come with Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box and will support 4G LTE. A 2,840 mAh battery will be responsible for storing and providing the needed power.

Some feel that the Snapdragon 810 processor it originally came with is to blame for the HTC One M9's weak sales outing; but somehow, it seems to be more than that. There are other brands that have carried the same but the thing is, the issue may be more than just the processor.

It could be that with the wide array of smartphones one could get, the HTC One M9 has simply failed to hold its head above water. So while it is still a rumor, a possible change in chipset may not necessarily be the solution to their faltering performance thus far.
