How and where can one find happiness? First, understand its true meaning, says Pastor Greg Laurie

People often end up feeling miserable when they get frustrated in their search for happiness. Pastor Greg Laurie of Harvest Christian Fellowship believes this is because people fail to grasp what happiness really means.

People mistakenly think that they will be happy when they obtain riches, achieve the perfect physique, or become famous. But happiness is not based on circumstances" since it is "a deep, supernatural experience of contentedness, based on the fact that a person's life is right with God," Laurie writes for WND.

The pastor explains that the more people aligned their will with God's, then the more they will find proper balance in life.

At the same time, Laurie says Christians should refer to the Bible to better understand what happiness truly is. "The Bible gives a completely different view of happiness than our culture does. According to the Scriptures, happiness isn't something that should be sought directly; it is always something that results in seeking something else," he says.

Psalm 1 tells people, "Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night."

For people to be truly happy and find contentment in God, they must stay clear of all evil things. Laurie says the Bible's advice might appear simple enough, but it actually takes a lot of commitment to achieve.

"Let your delight be in God's Word. Meditate in it day and night. Be consistent and regular, and there will be fruit in your life. And you will find happiness in the truest sense of the word," he assures.
