House of Cards season 2 post-production begins: Early 2014 Netflix release date predicted

The production for Netflix original drama "House of Cards" season 2 has officially wrapped up.

The highly-acclaimed political drama started production in May and finally finished on Nov. 8. Executive producer Beau Willimon tweeted "WRAP. 9:21 PM EST. Seas 2" along with a photo of a celebration cake decorated with the House of Cards theme.

Prior to the that post, Willimon tweeted "In 10 hrs we'll finish filming & wrap Season 2 @HouseofCards. Thanx to @netflix & the stellar cast & crew!" He attached a photo of the words "End of Chapter."

After nearly a six-months since production began, a premiere date for the second season of the popular series is finally nearing closer.

Post-production is currently underway, but there is no official timeline of when it will be completed. That being said, the earliest we can hope to see the Netflix launch of the second series is in early 2014.

Meanwhile, talks of a third season for House of Cards is ongoing.

Last month, Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos implied that a third season is indeed possible when he stated at the 2013 Film Independent Forum: "Our intent is that the show keep going for sure. It was a 26-episode commitment. It was not our intent that it just run for two seasons."

Rumors swirled that the political drama will end after the second season after former co-executive producer Rick Cleveland commented at the Vancouver Film Festival that the drama "is only going to go a second season and I think that's it. Kevin Spacey likes to do movies and Robin Wright likes to do movies."

"House of Cards" initially received a 26-episode order from Netflix when it started.

The original Netflix drama won three Emmy awards and was nominated for six other categories.
