'Homeland' season 5 spoilers: Carrie has a new enemy in new episodes

A new rival has surfaced to take down Carrie in "Homeland" season 5. Showtime

Carrie (Claire Danes) will have to deal with a lot of antagonism from the male species when Showtime's award-winning drama series "Homeland" returns for season 5.

The Wrap reports that a new enemy has surfaced to make Carrie's life miserable. Mike Brown, who will be played by Max Beesley, is an ex-Royal Marine who will find working under a woman totally mortifying. He will be one of the private security contractors and Carrie's underling in the company.

Brown will reportedly shake things up for his lady boss as he doubts her capability for the job. Carrie certainly has no shortage of dealing with bruised male ego in season 5. Design & Trend reports that her former co-worker Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin) is hatching an evil plan with two-timing CIA agent Dar Adal (F. Murray Abraham). Is their target Carrie?

It has been previously reported that Berenson will consider Carrie a traitor to her own country. The recently appointed CIA director will reportedly see her work in a private security firm in Germany as "counterproductive" to her former values. With Carrie still posing as a threat, Berenson could very well be plotting something drastic against his former friend with Adal's help.

In the photos released by Showtime for the upcoming installment, Carrie could be seen in "a tense discussion" with Berenson near a stairwell. The International Business Times posits that perhaps, the director has gone all the way to Berlin to visit his former co-worker. The reunion, however, appears to be an unhappy one, as strain seems to emanate from the two.

Meanwhile, different photos reveal Saul talking to none other than Quinn (Rupert Friends). The website said that the images were in tandem with the trailer earlier released by the network, where Saul was telling Carrie's ex-lover to kill someone. In the photo, Quinn was seen setting up a bomb while a trussed up man sits in a corner.

"Homeland" season 5 will premiere on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 9 p.m. EST on Showtime.
