'Half-life 3' release rumors: speculations for a sequel still persist

Half-Life 3 alleged logo Valve

One of the biggest anticipated game titles that fans so eagerly wanted — and still want — is the third installment in the hugely-popular "Half-Life" franchise. Indeed, the clamor from hardcore fans is so strong that "Half-Life 3" has already achieved what for some is a legendary and mythical game status. The title is always present on lists of what fans want to see, and with the advent of virtual reality gaming already on the horizon, it seems that Valve will have no choice but to release the game.

However, developer and game bigwig Gabe Newell of Valve has already put on record that instead of caving in to fan pressure, the company will be making a new "Half-Life" if and when the company decides it.

Newell has been quoted as saying, "The only reason we'd go back and do like a super classic kind of product is if a whole bunch of people just internally at Valve said they wanted to do it and had a reasonable explanation for why [they did]."

The quote from the big boss, however, has not stopped fans from clamoring and speculating on the next installment.

Some bits and pieces of teasers have been found by hardcore fans. Apparently, early this month, Valve has teased "Half-Life 3" watchers with a logo and a poster for the game. As fans deluged the website to find out for themselves if this is true, Valve then decided to take down the images – but not until another teaser cropped up that only hardcore fans could stumble into.

When fans type 'valve.software' onto a browser, it takes them into a redirecting site with the words, "Maybe next year." The words are gone as of recent checking, but fans who will tinker with the website a bit will find a nugget — a banner image for the "Half-Life 3" logo.

However, it seems that the website is just another hoax, perhaps, put up by another frustrated fan.

No one really knows if "Half-Life 3" will still make it out of the game purgatory, but almost every gamer hopes that Valve, showing its commitment to its legions of fans, will do everything in its power to make "Half-Life 3" a reality.
