Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) is set to embark on a journey to find a new romantic interest after parting ways with her long-time partner Callie (Sara Ramirez), who moved to New York last season.
Before the start of the season, Shonda Rhimes said that they had many things planned for Arizona for season 13.
"I'm very excited to introduce a love interest for her and to get to tell a story with her that lets her be who she is, and to see who she is post the relationships that she's had," the show creator told Entertainment Weekly.
Capshaw — who has just returned in episode 3 — admitted that her character had her hands full upon her return as she had to deal with the aftermath of Alex (Justin Chambers) beating up Deluca (Giacomo Gianniotti).
The actress expressed optimism that her new romantic interest could lead to more exciting events for the show, but said that she is unsure as to who it could be.
Now, news has surfaced that actress Tessa Ferrer — who previously played intern Leah — will return to the show after her character was released from the program by Chief Webber (James Pickens).
Prior to the character's dismissal, it can be recalled Leah shared a brief romance with Arizona that didn't quite pan out the way she planned when the latter chose to work things out with Callie. For fans who are wondering when Arizona will finally take a shot at love, Capshaw assured fans that everything will happen in due time.
"Somewhere before the halfway line, I would say. Somewhere leading up to the middle of the season, you will see her spreading her wings and flying a bit," she told Variety.
Meanwhile, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) could be faced with the possibility of a romance with Riggs (Martin Henderson) even as she tries to encourage him to go out with her sister Maggie (Kelly McCreary).
In the promo for episode 4 — entitled "Falling Slowly" — it was teased that Riggs would ask Meredith to hang out in the hopes of igniting a relationship with the widowed doctor. But as is tradition with Grey's Anatomy, their relationship could hit more speedbumps than expected.
