'Grey's Anatomy' season 12: Maggie, Andrew take relationship to the next level

Although most "Grey's Anatomy" fans are focused on what is happening in the "Jalex" and "Japril" relationships, one tandem that also generates swooning is that of Maggie (Kelly McCreary) and Andrew (Giacomo Gianniotti).

Recent photos of the pair in the ABC series' official Facebook account have inspired much love, as people who commented gush over the steamy connection between them. One snapshot particularly drew a lot of positive reviews, where Maggie and Andrew were seen gazing deep into each other's eyes. The current Head of Cardiothoracic Surgery in Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital is known for her perky and fun side, but when it comes to relationships, she is not exactly a connoisseur. In the first half of season 12, she is still looking at Andrew as a fling. When the new episodes come pouring in, it will be interesting to see how their bond has progressed past the getting-to-know stage.

Meanwhile, series creator Shonda Rhimes hinted at what fans can expect when the crew returns in February. She said Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) will once again be put on the spotlight, as she deals with everything that has been happening in her post-Derek life. She said that come the show's midseason premiere, viewers would see where the character's journey would take her. The creator also shared that they have been "having a blast" on set while filming episode 9, titled "The Sound of Silence." She said it would not be "as heavy or as dark" as the midseason finale.

"That evolution continues. We've been having a blast. The first episode that comes back is extraordinary and very, very powerful, and directed by Denzel Washington. It certainly puts us on a path for the beginning of the second half of the season," Rhimes told the EW Spoiler Room.

"Grey's Anatomy" season 12 will return on Feb. 11 at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
